Itikaf Guidelines 2026

Eligibility, Fees & Application Requirements

  1. Applicants must be male and 18 years of age or older.

  2. There is no fee for the ten day itikaf for Ramadan 2026.

  3. Places are allocated at the discretion of masjid.

Items

  1. Please bring a small rucksack containing personal hygiene items (such as a toothbrush and toothpaste), any required medications, sufficient clothing for the full duration of itikaf, a small pillow and a sleeping bag.

  2. You may also wish to bring essential electronics such as a mobile phone and charger.

  3. Cash or a bank card may be useful should you wish to donate to charity appeals or make purchases.

  4. Please avoid bringing strongly scented foods, snacks, or items that spoil quickly.

Conduct, Etiquette & Spiritual Focus

  1. Participants must remain within the masjid premises throughout the duration of itikaf, except in cases of genuine emergency.

  2. A quiet, focused, and spiritually uplifting environment must be maintained at all times. Unnecessary conversation, socialising, or mobile phone use is not permitted.

  3. All participants must display good character, maintain personal cleanliness, and show respect towards fellow participants, masjid management, staff, and volunteers.

  4. Smoking, listening to music, and engaging in any other haram activities are strictly prohibited on the masjid premises.

Accommodation, Use of Masjid Space & Food

  1. Sleeping areas must be kept clean, tidy, and organised at all times.

  2. Participants must bring their own sleeping bags, pillows, and blankets.

  3. During large congregational programmes, including iftar events, tarawih and jumu’ah prayers, all sleeping areas must be cleared.

  4. Limited shower facilities available.

  5. Participants must respect all masjid facilities and property. Any damage may result in possible liability for repair or replacement.

  6. Iftar and Suhur will be provided by the masjid.

Health, Safety & Wellbeing

  1. Participants must be physically and mentally fit to observe itikaf. Anyone who becomes unwell or is unable to continue may be asked to leave for their own wellbeing and the safety of others.

  2. All participants must provide an emergency contact number that can be reached during the period of itikaf.

  3. Fire exits must be kept clear at all times, and all health, safety, and security procedures set by the masjid must be followed.

  4. Any guidelines regarding food preparation, storage, and kitchen use (where applicable) must be strictly adhered to, and all areas must be left clean after use.

Visitors, Privacy & Security

  1. No visitors are permitted without prior approval from your appointed Point of Contact.

  2. Participants are solely responsible for their personal belongings. The masjid accepts no responsibility for damage, loss or theft.

  3. Participants must respect the privacy and confidentiality of others. Photography, video recording, or audio recording of other participants within the masjid is not permitted without prior approval.

  4. You consent to the masjid taking photographs and video recordings which may be used for marketing, promotional, and communication purposes across our platforms. If you do not wish to be photographed or recorded, please inform your appointed Point of Contact upon arrival and we will make reasonable efforts to accommodate your request.

Management Authority & Compliance

  1. All participants must follow instructions issued by the masjid at all times.

  2. Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in removal from itikaf.

  3. The masjid reserves the right to amend itikaf arrangements or terminate participation at any time, without obligation to provide a reason.
