Men’s Quran Level 1: Arabic Alphabet

This course will start from the very beginning: the Arabic alphabet. Course objectives include:

  • Recognition of Arabic letters, vowels, and reading symbols

  • Accurate pronunciation of letters

  • Ability to read single words

  • Adequate reading fluency of up to two consecutive words (without constantly stopping or spelling)

Students who successfully complete this course will qualify for Level 2: Connected Reading.

Book: We will be studying Complete Qāʿidah by Safar Publications (Chapters 1–9, pages 16–111). A free copy will be provided to registered students; however, we encourage an optional £10 donation to the mosque to help cover costs.

    Level 2: Connected Reading

    • Adequate reading of single line verses (without constantly stopping or spelling)

    • Adequate application of select reading rules:

      • Rules for stopping at the end of words

      • Silent letters

      • Hamzatul-Wasl

    Level 3: Reading Fluency

    • Adequate reading fluency of short surahs (without constantly stopping or spelling)

    • Memorisation of short surahs from Juzz ʿAmma

    • Consistent application of select tajwid rules:

      • Taʿawwudh and Basmalah

      • Mim Mushaddadah and Nun Mushaddadah

      • Qalqalah

      • Lam of Allah

      • Raʾ Mutaharrikah and Raʾ Sakinah

    Level 4: Tajwid Mastery

    • Consistent application of 20+ tajwid rules

    • Further memorisation of short surahs from Juzz ʿAmma

    • Satisfactory reading fluency of long, unfamiliar passages

    • A trained ear: basic proficiency to detect recitation errors
